Mikkeli Fair Trade association organizes in cooperation with Finnish Association of World Shops and other partners a Fair Trade fair on 9th and 10th of May in Mikkeli. The Fair Trade fair is a national event taking place yearly. The aim of the event is to inform people on ethical consumption, Fair trade, and offer colorful multicultural dance and music performances to everyone. The theme of Mikkeli's Fair Trade fair is Fair Food and the program will evolve around Fair trade groceries and Finnish organic goods.

In the fair you have a unique opportunity to see and feel the everyday life of the Third World. You can participate in assorting coffee beans with a Tanzanian coffee farmer or dance to the beats of West-African drums. You can discuss with the representatives of different NGOs, see pictures from a Nicaraguan coffee farm and have a cup of fair coffee. You can marvel the handicrafts and other products of the exhibitors. Every product has its tale and products' origins are well known.

Mikkeli Fair Trade Association, usually known as Kema, was created in 1986. Its main aim is to promote greater equality in the trade between Finland and developing countries as well as advance the quality and amount of Finnish development aid. Kema use to have its own World Shop Karibu, but it has closed in March 2007. Now the activities of the association are focused in different campaigns.
