Everyday lives encounter…
The large-scale event , Origin known - The Fair Trade Fair, will be held at Ilosaari and Karjalantalo in Joensuu on 18th and 19th May 2007. The meaning of this event is to make fair trade, the cultures of developing countries and handicrafts better known. Different organizations will be presenting their work. This year we are going to get guest speakers from India, Palam Rural Centre, which produces soap and leather products. These fair trade producers will be given the floor to bring the producers of developing countries closer to our everyday lives.
At the Fair Trade Fair the everyday lives of different cultures, craftsmen and people encounter. At the fair beautiful handicrafts, fair trade goods, textiles, know-how and much more will be offered for sale.
The Fair Trade Fair is held at Karjalantalo and Ilosaari in Joensuu, on the 18th and 19th of May, 2007. It is an open, fair trade related event without an entrance fee. Various performers will be giving a colourful and multicultural stage show. There will also be many exhibitors from around Finland. On the stage there will be dance, music, theater, and discussion of related social views.
On Friday and Saturday the guests from Palam Rural Centre will demonstrate at their workshop how Indian leatherwork is made. They arrive to tell how fair trade has affected their and their collagues lives. In addition, it is possible to converse with them at their own exhibition stand.
The preparation of Finnish traditional soap can be seen at the workshops of Christiana Harle on Friday and Saturday. In addition, Seikku from Northern Karelia will demonstrate the preparation of Finnish shaman drum at her workshops on Saturday.
Children will have their own program in a special "Children’s Corner", where it is possible for them to play, draw and have their face painted with various face paintings. On Saturday, as well, there will be music, theatre and circus arranged for children.
On Friday 18 May at 8.00 p.m. there will be a fair trade wine party at Teatteriravintola. The wine expert will present wines, the origins of the products, producers and the cultures of the countries, where wines are produced. The evening continues with a fair trade party at Teatteriravintola at 10 p.m.
On Saturday there will be an unfair football competition in Ilosaari and after the fair on Saturday there will be a movie related to the theme “Everyday lives encounter” shown at cinema Tapio.

Friday 18.5., from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday 19.5., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
